Bookkeeper/Tax Preparer

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for write-up of revenues and expenditures for small businesses including sole proprietorships, partnerships and corporations.  Responsible for preparing tax returns for clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA or AS degree in accounting or business management, may be in progress
  • Complete Lopez Tax Service, Inc. basic income tax course

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Fully understand our policies and procedures manual
  • Prepare financial statements and payroll reports
  • Reconcile accounts with bank statements
  • Comply with Federal, state and local statutes and regulations
  • Keep client information confidential
  • Dress neatly and appropriately for the position held
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Follow working instructions as directed by immediate supervisor
  • Assist in all office operations when needed
  • Maintain continuing education and CTEC license

PAY RANGE

Basic salary depends on your previous experience and demonstrated abilities.  Commissions are paid on collected tax return fees and staying current on your write-up clients.  Promotions go to those who best deserve them.  Due to the nature and limited duration of tax season, overtime and weekend work is required.  Shifts are arranged sothat overtime and weekend work is evenly distributed among all team members.

Information Technology Technician

JOB SUMMARY

IT technicians troubleshoot, locate and solve computer problems, load programs onto the file server and workstations, work on the wide area network, local area networks, voice over internet protocol phone systems and intranet.  Set up and break down audio-visuals for classrooms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA or AS degree in Computer Science
  • Microsoft Certification completed or in progress
  • Ability to communicate and relate well to employees & clients
  • Good English and basic math skills
  • Must be accurate and able to work quietly
  • Self-motivated, some work is isolated

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain hardware at all workstations and servers
  • Maintain OS software at all workstations and servers
  • Install and upgrade software at servers and workstations
  • Locate computer connectivity problems and solve
  • Communicate with hardware and software vendors
  • Maintain training on hardware and software applications
  • Scan and transmit documents for electronic filing cabinet
  • Electronically file tax returns
  • Work at all company offices
  • Lifting and carrying computers and peripherals, crawling into tight spaces, etc.

WORKPLACE CONDITIONS

  • Sitting or standing in front of a computer for long periods of time
  • Reading and understanding technical manuals
  • Telephone communication and following verbal instructions

PAY RANGE

Currently the beginning basic pay range is $10.00 per hour.  Depending on experience and demonstrated abilities pay will be increased.  Overtime and weekend work is required during tax season.

File Clerk

JOB SUMMARY

Filing clerks organize letters and documents, and put them away in the correct place, according to the office filing system.

QUALIFICATIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Copy and organize tax returns for clients
  • Retrieve client folders for tax preparers
  • Enter data into the accounts receivable computer
  • File client folders alphabetically
  • Scan documents for electronic filing cabinet
  • Prepare form 8453 for mailing to the IRS
  • Electronically file tax returns
  • Maintain acknowledgements and rejects/return files to preparer

WORKPLACE CONDITIONS

  • May need to handle dusty papers
  • People with asthma or allergies should take precautions around dusty files
  • Lifting and carrying is required

PAY RANGE

Currently the beginning basic pay range is $8.00 per hour.  Depending on experience and demonstrated abilities pay will be increased.  Overtime and weekend work is required during tax season.

Receptionist

JOB SUMMARY

Must be able to respond to individuals seeking information and assistance in a pleasant, courteous and professional manner at all times.  Must be able to communicate with the appropriate employee in response to our clients’ needs.

PAY RANGE

Currently the beginning basic pay range is $8.00 to $9.00 per hour.  Depending on experience and demonstrated abilities, pay will be increased.  Overtime and weekend work is required during tax season.

Tax Preparer

Reports to:                             Office Manager

Overview:

As tax preparer in our office you will be expected to provide clients with assistance in preparing their tax returns that best meet their legal tax needs.  You will also be responsible for maintaining the appearance of your workstation.  We will provide thorough training to familiarize you with our business operations and procedures as they relate to your job and responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the company’s services and learn as much as possible about tax law, practice and administration to make informed recommendations to clients.
  • Learn the sales process in accordance with our operations procedures to perform at maximum efficiency.
  • Work productively while in the office.  If there are no clients, maintain the appearance of your workstation, make copies, scan documents, help other preparers, etc.
  • Recognize the importance of our clients and show respect for their business by being courteous, professional and available.
  • We consider all employees to be team members.  Show respect for co-workers by assisting staff members when needed, i.e. answering the phones, filling out W-7’s, scanning, preparing Western Union transfers, etc.
  • Maintain a professional appearance to make a positive impression on our clients.
  • Check your email frequently for updates and important company information.
  • Be aware of new tax law changes and company procedures.
  • Inform management of any client problems or situations you feel we should be aware of.

PAY RANGE

Basic salary depends on your previous experience and demonstrated abilities.  All new preparers start out on a 25% commission on received fees, salary is deducted as a draw against the commission.  Commissions are paid by June 17th.  Due to the nature and limited duration of tax season, overtime and weekend work is required.  Shifts are arranged so that overtime and weekend work is evenly distributed among all team members.
